1928 Olympics fed roller delirium | Ross Eric Gibson, Local History
"The Santa Cruz police were deluged one January evening in 1928 with numerous complaints about roller skating boys disturbing the peace," writes columnist Ross Eric Gibson. "Yet the cause of the disturbance was probably little more than the fact most roller skates in those days made a terrible racket.

OTD: Olympics open in whiteout
On Feb. 11, 1928, the second Winter Olympics opened in St. Moritz, Switzerland — in whiteout conditions. Roughly 1,200 athletes and officials marched through falling snow at nearly 6,000 feet in the Swiss Alps.
